Day 3 – St Austell (ish)
Good morning, yep, another patchy night of sleep…but we’re awake and ready for the day. No room service today, we have to make our own breakfast…on the menu this morning, oj and porridge for me, Nisha had decided on scrambled eggs in toast with her customary mug of tea…

I made quick porridge today, just rolled oats mixed with hot water, I would have to give it a rating of 7/10, much better than yesterday!!! Might even try cooked porridge tomorrow!!!
During our morning breakfast meeting, a decision was made to go for a walk, maybe a swim, it could be too cold!!! Nisha’s wetsuit was in the car just in case the sun heated the sea to 20c 🤣🤣🤣🤣. After showering, we had to go to Sports Direct, Nisha needed new goggles!!! 😜. From there, we made our way to The Dodman which is a National Trust point. 90% of the journey was on single track, windy roads, just wide enough for one car!!! There were only 3 cars in the car park…Nisha now says that not many people come here because it’s so remote, but it’s going to be beautiful!!! The sun was out, but the wind was also out and so far wind was trumping sun…we’re hardened walkers to we had layered up, put on our walking boots and off we set. Through the first gate and up the hill we went…had it been raining?? The path was getting very muddy and I was getting a bit apprehensive!!!

Soon enough, as the trek started getting treacherous, we turned back and opted for a path to Hemmick beach. This path wasn’t too bad, less muddy but we had to take it slowly as we were on a decline. Before long, we went through another gate and this was our view…

Now I was worried because we now had to walk down a wet field with no path…I gingerly walked down with Nisha just eager to get to the beach…

There was still a coolness in the atmosphere hence we’re still layered up even though the sun is bright!!!

We strolled around the beach, the water is crystal clear but it was quite choppy, probably because of the weather.
In Bristol, remember the photo with adult snails, well, we found hundreds of baby snails…all right next to the beach…nature never fails to amaze!!!

Now the trek up to the car park…all up hill, god we were knackered!!! And in need for food…google wasn’t helpful because it only recommended burger bars…off to Mevagissey we went, there was another restaurant there which had a nice menu. More windy narrow roads but this time there were cars coming in the opposite direction so the van in front of us needed to reverse so we had to reverse, just like the car behind us, we all managed to find a bit of space to allow 4 cars pass us. We arrived but this time we entered Mevagissey from the other end, manoeuvred their one way ish system and parked in a different car park. Now the restaurant we wanted to try is called Shark Fin but after looking at the menu, we decided to go back to The Wheel House. Today we ordered fresh battered cod, whitebait, plain and cheesy fries, green beans with asparagus in a butter sauce and a Greek salad, all washed down with 0% Guinness…the harbour is alcohol free…who knew!!! Yet again, the food didn’t disappoint!!! (No photos because we forgot!!!, we’ll, maybe one photo 😜)

After our meal, we wandered around the harbour…

The wind was still beating the sun!!!! And still too cold for Nisha to go for a swim 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nisha fancied a drive and decided on going to Charlestown. More windy narrow roads, and after 15 minutes we reached, drove to the centre, wet around the roundabout and drove away 🤣🤣🤣🤣 oh we know all about adventure 🤣🤣🤣🤣. By now, Nisha was so fed up with narrow windy roads and so opted for google to guide us home (apparently google uses main roads) and so we got stuck in some traffic 🤣🤣🤣🤣 but soon enough we got home to enjoy a tea for Nisha and a coffee for me. I stayed indoors to finish the blog while Nisha took on the sun and wind to read her book on the decking. Guess what…the wind won again, 10 minutes later and she’s back on the sofa…it’s getting cold out there Jes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Sooo many choices for dinner…something light was needed, Nisha whipped up a quick smoked salmon salad, accompanied with red wine…

Scone, toasted, then jam, topped with local Cornish Clotted Cream…who could resist…
